Goethe-Institut Hanoi invites the Gewandhaus Choir Leipzig, directed by Gregor Meyer, to Vietnam in order to perform several concerts. On their first evening, the singers from Leipzig will perform an a capella concert consisting of German folk songs covering three centuries in the big concert hall at the Music Academy Hanoi. What’s special about this evening is that anyone who is interested, already gained some experience with choir singing and signs up until September 30, 2016 at Goethe-Institut is invited to join the German singers on the stage and to sing two polyphonic songs with them. The required German notes and texts will be sent to the participants in time, which allows them to prepare themselves for their big performance. On the day of the concert, there will be a collective rehearsal at 2 PM. We’ll let you know the venue in time.

If you are interested, please contact Ms Pham Thi Kim Chung:kimchung.pham@hanoi.goethe.org. Please let her know whether you are singing soprano, alto, bass or tenor.

The Gewandhaus Choir Leipzig has been one of the most renowned German concert choirs for over 150 years and is closely related to the traditional Gewandhaus orchestra Leipzig. The choir is covering a huge variety of genres, apart from a capella they are also singing symphonic music, gospel, soul, pop and jazz.

From the organizer:

After three acclaimed annual open exhibitions from 2013 to 2015, the Fourth Hanoi Open Exhibition exhibiting works from both professional and amateur Vietnamese and international artists, is unrivaled for diversity of artwork.

Over the past two decades there has been phenomenal and unprecedented artistic, commercial and social development in Vietnam. Hanoi remains central to the country’s creative community. Contemporary Vietnamese artists have become respected around the world for their resourceful approach, cultural and social dialogue and creative sensitivity. Likewise, foreign artists are increasingly finding Hanoi and Vietnam an invaluable source of inspiration for their own work.

There is no central theme to the Open Exhibition but previous shows have been heralded as being vibrant, energised and stimulating. Artists are invited to submit a maximum of two pieces, which are then considered by a panel of both local and international art experts before being curated for display. The exhibition is a unique showcase for art in a variety of mediums; painting, sculpture, photography and print, and is as much an opportunity for art enthusiasts as it is for the artists themselves.
